Assist to Milford in Pocono Woodlands
12-27-2007- Dingman Township Volunteers were requested at 21:36 hours to assist Milford Fire Department with a working structure fire on Knob Cone Dr. in Pocono Woodlands. 26 Engine, Ladder, Tanker, and Ambulance 268 made the response with a roster of 17 members. Personnel worked jointly with the Milford personnel to quickly extinguish fire and then to overhaul the rooms involved. Dingman Township units operated for nearly 3 hours on the scene.
Christmas Eve Fire on Log Tavern Rd.
12-24-2007- Crews were alerted at 17:19 hours for a reported chimney fire on Log Tavern Rd. near Aspen Drive. Assistant Chief O’Brien (26-2) arrived on scene and reported a working chimney fire from the exterior. As size up was made to the interior, 26-2 found a moderate smoke condition on the 2nd floor and a heavy smoke and heat condition in the attic. With the conditions in the residence being as they were the Milford Fire Department was placed on stand-by for an Engine and Tanker. As apparatus arrived on scene crews made access to the attic and found only minor extension to the insulation near the chimney. Personnel were quickly able to extinguish the fire in the chimney and the insulation without incident. The building was allowed to naturally ventilate while crews picked up. No injuries were reported. Crews operated for just over an hour on scene.
2 Calls for the Day
12-20-2007- Dingman Township personnel were alerted for two calls this evening. The first call came in just before 1900 hours reporting a smell of propane in a residence on Gold Key Road. 26 Ladder and Ambulance 268 arrived on scene to find a slight odor inside the residence but with normal gas readings. With a little further investigating it was discovered the cause of the odor due to the propane tank being empty and not being to support the pilot lights sufficiently. Crews advised the homeowner to notify their gas company. Crews cleared within 25 minutes. At 23:04 hours 26 Rescue and Ambulance 268 were on the road again, this time to Log Tavern Rd. near Pocono Water Forest for a vehicle overturned. Units arrived to find an SUV on it’s side with the driver already extricated denying any injury. Personnel controlled hazards and traffic while the EMS crew signed off the driver. Pa. State Police at Blooming Grove investigated the accident. Personnel operated for 90 minutes on scene.
Mid Day Vehicle Fire
12-17-2007- Volunteers from Dingman Township were alerted just before 13:00 hours for a vehicle fire on Gold Key Road. 26 Engine, 26 Rescue, and Ambulance 268 arrived on scene to find a sedan with a working fire in the engine compartment. Personnel made quick work of the fire placing all units back at the station within 40 minutes. No injuries were reported.
Ice Storm Hits Dingman Township
12-09-2007- Just before 1900 hours, the Pike County 9-1-1 Center began dispatching motor vehicle accidents in Dingman Township. The first of these calls was on Interstate 84 and was handled by Milford Fire Department and the Hemlock Farms Fire & Rescue Co. Ambulance. Shortly after that call was received Dingman Township Fire and Westfall Township Fire were dispatched for a serious accident on Rt. 6 near Eureka Stone Quarry. 39 Engine 2, Ambulance 399, 26 Rescue, and Ambulance 268 all made the response. Westfall Fire Chief Mike Pflanz (39-1) arrived on scene to find a three vehicle accident with two victims sustaining fatal injuries. 39-1 returned 26 Rescue and held Ambulance 268 on the scene to assess several other occupants of the vehicles involved. At 20:23 hours Station 26 personnel were once again alerted to a possible structure fire on Fawn Lane. 26 Ladder, Tanker, Engine and Ambulance 269 made the response to the fire. Crews arrived to find normal conditions at the residence. Investigation found smoke from the woodstove stoves somewhat cloged chimney pipe caused the problem and all units returned without incident. At 20:27 hours 26 Rescue, Ambulance 269, 29 Rescue 1 & 2, 29 Traffic Unit, and Ambulance 297 all were alerted to another vehicle accident this time, on Rt. 739 just north of Seneca Dr. Crews arrived to find an SUV had struck a utility pole effectively destroying the pole and causing all the wires to lie across the roadway. The occupants of the vehicle were assessed by EMS crews and found to be uninjured. Utility companies were notified and made the necessary repairs. Route 739 was closed for nearly 18 hours due to the incident.
Dingman Township Covers Area Stations
12-08&09-2007- Dingman Township personnel were dispatched early Saturday morning to stand-by at the Westfall Fire Station with 26 Tanker while they assisted on a fatal fire in Mill Rift. 26 Tanker stood-by 6.5 hours and handled no additional calls while on duty. On Sunday morning at 04:22 hours 26 Engine and Ambulance 268 was requested to stand-by at the Milford Fire Station while they assisted the Westfall Fire Department with a structure fire. 26 Engine with 4 personnel stood by for just over 90 minutes without turning a wheel. Ambulance 268 handled an EMS call on Springbrook Rd. during the stand by. Sunday evening just before 1800 hours, Station 26 was requested to stand-by for Hemlock Farms Fire & Rescue Co. while they responded to a structure fire in Hemlock Farms. Crews manned the station for a half hour while the crews from Station 29 handled the incident.
One Day, Two Roads, Five Accidents
12-07-2007- The volunteers from Station 26 were kept busy today running five separate accidents. The day began at 07:56 hours with a reported vehicle in the woods near the fire station on Log Tavern Rd. Crews arrived on scene to find all occupants out of the vehicle suffering no injury. Ambulance 268 assessed the occupants of the vehicle while fire personnel directed traffic. Personnel no sooner cleared the first accident when they were sent further down Log Tavern Rd. to Valley View Camp for reported vehicle into a tree. Fire and EMS personnel arrived to find an SUV into a tree with moderate damage and the occupant self extricated suffering minor injuries. Ambulance 268 transported the patient to a local hospital for treatment. A half hour later 26 Rescue and Ambulance 268 were once again alerted for another accident this time on Route 739 south of the Five Mile Meadow Rd. Units arrived to find a small sedan struck a tree. As with the last incident, the vehicle suffered moderate damage and the occupant was out of the vehicle. Ambulance 268’s crew treated the occupant before releasing them on the scene. Crews were able to get a few hours of rest before being alerted at 17:18 hours for another accident on Route 739 just south of Log Tavern Rd. Personnel arrived on scene and found that the vehicle in question was suffering a mechanical issue and not involved in an accident. Crews were cancelled at 17:25 hours. The fifth and final accident of the day occurred at 20:46 on Log Tavern Rd. near Aspen Dr. 26 Rescue and Ambulance 268 arrived on scene to find a sedan overturned with the occupant extricated with the assistance of a passerby. Ambulance 268’s crew assessed the occupant and found him to be suffering no injury. Crews were in service for just over and hour on the final incident of the day.
One Injured on Route 739
12-02-2007- As the inclement weather began to move out of the area, Dingman Township crews were alerted for a motor vehicle accident on Route 739 just south of Conashaugh Trail. Personnel arrived on scene to find an SUV had struck a tree causing moderate damage to the driver side of the vehicle. Ambulance 268 tended to the injured driver while fire personnel checked for hazards and controlled traffic. Personnel were in service for an hour and twenty minutes. 268 transported the driver to the local hospital for further assessment.
