Early Morning MVA Injures One

 02-25-2007- Just after midnight Ambulance 268 was alerted for a medical emergency in Sunrise Lake.  While the Ambulance 268 went responding the volunteers were alerted again for a motor vehicle accident on Log Tavern Rd. near Aspen Drive.  Crews arrived on scene and corrected the location to Log Tavern Rd. at Water Forest Drive.  The crew found a sedan had struck a utility pole and rolled over with the driver self extricated sitting in another car.  The crew from Ambulance 269 treated minor injuries on the scene prior to transporting the driver to a local hospital.  With no hazards present at the scene the fire crews quickly secured.

02-25-2007- In the early morning hours today, crews from Stations 33, 26, 39, and Montague FD were alerted for a reported structure fire on Broad St. in Milford Borough.  As Milford’s fire officers responded they were advised that the reporting party states he could see fire on the second floor of the structure.  This report prompted additional resources from Stations 29 & 32 to be alerted.  As 33-1 (Chief Mann) arrived on scene with nothing evident.  Upon investigation it was found that the fire was contained within the screen saver program of the large screen monitor located in the building.  Units were returned to service a short time later.

 

School Bus Accident

 

 

02-22-2007- Shortly before 0800 hours this morning 26 Heavy Rescue was alerted for an accident involving a school bus with possible entrapment on Route 6 in Palmyra Township.  As 26 Rescue began the response, the Assistant Chief of Tafton Fire Co. arrived on scene and confirmed negative entrapment, the Assistant Chief recalled 26 Rescue.  As the crew from 26 Rescue were backing the truck into the station, Ambulance 268 was requested to the accident scene to assist with patient transport.  Ambulance 268 transported two of twelve injured parties to a local hospital for follow up treatment.

 

EMS Crews Have Busy Holiday Weekend

 

02-17 through 19-2007- Crews riding on Ambulances 268 & 269 handled 13 medical calls over the President’s Day weekend.  The break down was Saturday 02/17 three calls, Sunday 02/18 four calls, and Monday 02/19 six calls.  

 

Engine & Ambulance Cover Milford FD

 

 

02-17-2007- 26 Engine relocated this evening to the Milford Firehouse to cover their district while Milford’s members took a well deserved night off for their annual banquet.  The Engine crew was treated to a nice dinner and a quiet night of TV until 2200 hours when they were alerted along with the covering EMS squad (Ambulance 268) for a pedestrian struck on Rt. 2001 near the intersection of Log Tavern Road.  Due to the mechanism of injury an ALS unit from Regional EMS was alerted to the scene as well as a medical helicopter placed on stand-by.  Crews arrived to find a male subject lying on the side of the road after being struck by a small sedan.  The crew from Ambulance 268 handled patient care while the crew from 26 Engine assisted the EMS crew and controlled traffic.  The patient was transported to a local hospital for additional treatment.  Crews cleared the scene in 50 minutes.

Cold Weather Problems Continue

 

 

02-15-2007-  The recent cold weather snap was to blame for a reported flooding condition on Buckeye Lane in Pocono Woodlands.  Crews were at around one in the afternoon by neighbors reporting a “frozen waterfall” on the side of the structure.  The crew manning 26 Rescue arrived at the vacant residence gained entry to find a broken water pipe that supplied the heating system to the house.  The crew was able to secure the line to prevent any further damage and notified the homeowner.  The crew was back at the station within the hour.  EMS crews answered an additional two calls for the day.

 

Weather Related Emergencies Keeping Volunteers Busy

 

 

 02-05 through 10-2007-  Since the start of the recent cold weather personnel from Dingman Township have been keeping steady with several weather related incidents.  The first two weather related incidents were structural fires in Pocono Woodlands and Hemlock Farms (stories below).  On 02/07/2007 26 Engine and Ambulance 268 responded to a carbon monoxide detector sounding in Conashaugh Lakes.  Personnel performed monitoring and assessed the residence before securing the residence back to the homeowner.  On 02/09/2007 crews stood by at our firehouse while the Milford FD handled a structural fire related to chimney and woodstove.  On 02/10/2007 at 08:16 hours crews responded to a chimney fire on North Forrest Dr. in Gold Key Lake (pictures above).  Crews made quick work of the fire with no extension outside for the mason chimney. 

  

Bus Accident Draws Water Rescue Response

 

 

02-06-2007- Just as clean up finished up from the structure fire assist, 26 Rescue was back on the road for a reported school bus in a creek with entrapment on McKean Valley Road in Shohola.  The crew arrived on scene and was assigned to assist with patient removal from the bus.  Dingman Township personnel along with crews from Shohola, Greeley, Hemlock Farms, and Milford extricated and removed the two patients from the bus quickly and into waiting Ambulances 415 and 216.  The six member crew of 26 Rescue was released after 80 minutes on the scene.

 

Engine and Rescue Assist on Structure Fire

 

 02-06-2007-  At 16:20 hours Dingman Township personnel were alerted to assist Hemlock Farms with a structure fire on Lone Pine Bay in Hemlock Farms.  Crews from 26 Engine and 26 Rescue assisted the Hemlock Farms crew with fire extinguishment and overhaul.  The crew then assisted Hemlock Farms with rolling hose at the scene before being treated to some pizza back at Station 29.  Eleven volunteers manned 26 Engine and Rescue while up on the scene while additional four volunteers stood by at Station 26.  Units operated for nearly 90 minutes on scene.

 

Minor Structure Fire

 

 02-05-2007-  After running an assist to Hemlock Farms for an odor investigation earlier in the day, Fire Station 26 was alerted at 15:34 hours for a structure fire on Acacia Ct. in Pocono Woodlands.  The Communications Center reported a fire in a basement with smoke detector sounding in the background.  Due to the remote area the residence was located, Assistant Chief O’Brien opted to get mutual aid responding and sound the 2nd Alarm for Box 26-05.  This box alarm brings in multiple units to supply additional manpower and water supply.  Units arrived to find a minor smoke condition coming from the basement area of the evacuated residence.  Investigation of the scene found a box of discarded ashes as well as a plastic storage container on fire in the basement.  The crew from 26 Ladder quickly handled the fire and set up ventilation.  Additional fire units were returned while crews from 26 Ladder and 26 Engine completed overhaul and ventilation.  Crews operated for just under an hour.

 

Busy Day for EMS Crews

 

02-05-2007-  Ambulance 268 began the day the just after 07:00 with a medical call in Gold Key Lake.  Shortly after clearing the hospital Ambulance 268 was directed to the McDonalds Restaurant in Lords Valley for another medical emergency.  After clearing that call and while attempting to get the first cup of coffee for the day the crew was directed again into Lords Valley to Route 434 for an accident with entrapment.  Fire crews from Hemlock Farms and Blooming Grove arrived on scene to find minor injuries and minor entrapment.  On scene crews were able free the occupant and treat his wounds and cancelled Ambulance 268 as they arrived on scene.  The crew cleared the accident only to be directed again to assist Hemlock Farms and Dingman Township Fire crews with an odor of gas investigation at the Village Center Shopping Plaza in Lords Valley.  The crew arrived and stood by for a short time until released by 29-Command.  Ambulance 268 finally made it back to station for an hour before being sent to Conshaugh Lakes for a medical emergency.  Ambulance 269 also took in a second medical emergency at Conashaugh Lakes while Ambulance 268 was committed on the first one.  Ambulance 268 finished the day up with a structure fire stand by at 15:34 hours.

 

Fire Crews Take In Three More Calls

 

02-03-2007-  Fire crews ran three minor incidents today.  The first call began at 08:26 on Lakewood Dr. in the Pocono Water Forest.  The crews assisted a resident and cleared quickly.  The second call of the day came in at 12:22 hours and was a reported accident with minor injuries.  Ambulance 268 and 26 Rescue arrived on Raymondskill Rd. at the Route 84 overpass with a vehicle that had struck the bridge and suffered minor damage.  Crews checked hazards and controlled traffic.  EMS crews treated minor injuries on scene.  At 13:07 hours the same crews that were on the accident traveled south on Raymondskill Road near Arbutus Lane for a vehicle reported in the woods.  The crews arrived to find a vehicle off the roadway.  With some assistance the vehicle involved was able to get back on the road and travel on its’ way.  Crews were in service for an hour for both accidents.

 

2nd Accident of the Night on Route 739

 

 

 02-02-2007-  Just as crew finished cleaning the equipment from the entrapment call, they were dispatched to another accident on Route 739 near Dark Swamp Road.  Personnel manning 26 Engine, 26 Rescue, and Ambulance 269 responded to find a SUV off into the woods with minor front end damage.  The driver of the vehicle suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.  Personnel checked for hazards and controlled traffic.  Fire personnel operated for an hour and twenty minutes while Pa. State Police conducted their investigation.

 

Winter Weather Brings Accident with Entrapment

 

 

02-02-2007-  Shortly after a steady snow squall went through the area Dingman Township volunteers were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with reported entrapment and serious injury in the area of Route 739 near the Whispering Pines Nursery.  26 Engine, 26 Rescue, and Ambulance 268 responded to the 21:52 hour call.  26-1 (Chief Mikulak) while enroute to the scene, requested a medical helicopter to be placed on stand-by.  Crews arrived to find a small sedan had struck a utility pole on the passenger side front door causing a heavy intrusion into the passenger compartment.  The damage caused the adult passenger of the vehicle to become heavily entrapped in the vehicle.  Personnel went to work removing the doors and roof of the vehicle with the extrication tools.  With the doors and the roof removed personnel were able to maneuver the patient to free her.  The driver of the vehicle also suffered minor injuries.  Both patients were transported to a local hospital for treatment.  Besides extrication and patient care crews also performed hazard control and traffic control. Crews were released from the scene at 23:08 hours.
