Accident with Fire

 06-30-2007-  Dingman Township Volunteers were alerted at 20:13 hours for a reported vehicle accident with entrapment and fire on Route 739 just north of Log Tavern Road.  26 Engine responded immediately followed shortly after by Ambulance 268 and 26 Rescue.  26 Engine arrived simultaneously with 26-1 (Chief Mikulak) to find a crew from Aspen Construction (that was passing by the scene) had pried the severely injured driver from the burning vehicle.  Chief Mikulak requested MedEvac to fly due to the severity of the accident and injury and to land on the corner of Route 739 and Log Tavern Road.  The crew from 26 Engine began suppression efforts on the burning vehicle while the crew from Ambulance 268 tended to the driver.  The crew from 26 Rescue was diverted to the landing zone along with 26 Ladder.  The accident closed Route 739 for a short period time while the Pa. State Police at Blooming Grove investigated the incident.  Station 26’s crews were in service for 90 minutes.

 

Early Morning Assist to Hemlock Farms

 

06-20-2007-  Station 26 was alerted at 00:56 hours early today to assist the Hemlock Farms Fire & Rescue Co. with a structure fire on Appaloosa Ct. in Hemlock Farms.  26 Engine and 26 Rescue responded with a crew of nine.  Dingman Township volunteers worked side by side with crews from Hemlock Farms to extinguish the stubborn fire in the two story residence.  No injuries were reported on scene.  Station 26 was in service just over three hours. 

 

Suspicious Fire Destroys Vacant Structure

 06-16-2007-  26 Ladder and 26 Tanker were alerted at 08:29 hours this morning to assist Milford Fire Department with a structure fire on Route 6&209 in Milford Township.  Upon arrival the crews were tasked with assisting in the extinguishment and overhaul of the long abandoned, and now, destroyed 2+ story structure.  Personnel operated for just under two hours.  No injuries were reported.  Pa. State Police Fire Marshal unit is investigating the suspicious fire. 

 

Motorcyclist Strikes Deer

06-15-2007-  Fire and EMS units were alerted at 17:41 hours for a reported motorcyclist that had struck a deer on Route 739 just north of Dark Swamp Rd.  26 Rescue along with Ambulance 268 responded into the scene.  Crews found a Harley Davidson lying in the middle of the roadway with the helmeted driver suffering moderate injuries.  The crew from 26 Rescue assisted with traffic control while the crew from the ambulance tended to the driver’s injuries.  The driver then was transported to Bon Secour Hospital for additional treatment of his injuries.  There was no word on how the deer faired in the collision.  Crews operated for 30 minutes.

 

Lightning Strike Damages Home

 

06-12-2007-  As a series of strong thunderstorms moved through the area Station 26 was dispatched to a possible structure fire due to a lightning strike on Larch Dr. in Pocono Woodlands.  Crews manning 26 Tanker and Ambulance 268 responded to the call along with a mutual aid Engine from the Milford Fire Department.  Station 26 units arrived to find that a lightning bolt had struck a tree near the residence causing a power surge to an outlet in the garage.  Crews checked for additional signs of damage before securing the residence back to the homeowner and recalling 33 Engine.  Crews were in service for 40 minutes.

 

Head-On Crash Injures Four

 

06-07-2007-  Shortly after returning from a false fire alarm in Gold Key Lake, 26 Rescue along with Ambulances 268 and 269 were dispatched to a head-on motor vehicle accident on Log Tavern Rd. near Aspen Drive.  Crews found two mid sized sedans with moderate damage and negative entrapment.  An assessment on the scene found four persons complaining of mostly minor injuries.  An additional ambulance was requested from Milford Fire Department but was recalled prior to their arrival on scene.  Fire crews with the assistance of a Penn DOT crew that was working in the immediate area handled hazard and traffic control.  Crews from both ambulances packaged and treated the four injured parties.  The ambulances transported three patients to Bon Secour Hospital and one to Newton Memorial Hospital.  Crews cleared the scene at 13:54 hours. 

 

Fiery Crash Fatally Injures One

06-07-2007-  Dingman Township’s volunteers were awakened at 01:34 hours for a vehicle accident involving fire on Sunrise Dr. near the main entrance of  Sunrise Lake.  26 Engine, 26 Rescue, and Ambulance 268 along with Pike ALS Medic 401 responded to the call.  Units found a mid sized sedan had struck a tree head on and was fully involved.  Bystanders were able to remove the driver and front seat passenger prior to the incident even being reported.  As the crew from 26 Engine worked to extinguish the fire, the crews from Ambulance 268 and 26 Rescue performed CPR on the passenger that was in the vehicle who was in traumatic arrest.  Pike County ALS Medic 401 who arrived on scene shortly there after also tended to the passenger.  The medical crews transported the passenger to Bon Secour Hospital where she unfortunately succumbed to her injuries.  The driver of the vehicle had minor injuries on scene and remained on scene.  Pa. State Police at Blooming Grove handled the investigation for the incident.

 

Possible Structure Fires Keep Crews Busy

 

06-05&06-2007-  Crews handled two possible structure fires in the last twelve hours.  The first call came in at 19:46 hours on Tuesday evening for smoke in the basement on Aspen Dr. in Pocono Woodland Lakes.  Crews arrived on scene to find a malfunctioning clothes washer as the cause for the smoke.  Crews checked the residence and allowed for natural ventilation.  Units were in service for 45 minutes.  The second call was received at 06:31 hours Wednesday morning reporting something burning on the stove on Gap View Rd. in Gold Key Lake.  Crews arrived to find that a propane fired heating stove turned on due to the unseasonable cool temperature and melted a large candle that was placed on the stove by the homeowner.  Crews again checked for any additional problems within the residence and allowed for natural ventilation.  Crews were service for the second fire for 50 minutes.

 

Midday Accident Confines One

 

06-05-2007-  26 Rescue & Ambulance 268 were alerted at 12:34 hours for a single car accident on Route 739 north of Lake Adventure.  Units arrived on scene to find a mid sized sedan with it’s single occupant had struck a tree head on.  The unbelted driver was thrown into the passenger seat and suffered moderate injuries.  The crew from the 26 Rescue removed the passenger side front door while the EMS crew treated and packaged the patient.  The driver was transported to Bon Secour Hospital for further treatment.  Crews were in service for just over an hour.

 

Rollover Accident near Firehouse

 

06-04-2007-  Dingman Township volunteers were dispatched to a reported mini van that had rolled over on Log Tavern Road east of the firehouse.  26 Rescue and Ambulance 268 made the 11:02 hours response to find several people self extricated from the vehicle and suffering from minor injuries.  Fire personnel were tasked with traffic and hazard control while EMS crews checked out the parties involved.  All people involved choose to seek additional medical treatment on their own and units cleared at 11:34 hours after the Pa. State Police completed their investigation.
