MAY 2007 ARCHIVES
05-30-2007- A neighbor that smelled smoke discovered the beginnings of a brush fire at a new construction site on Cottonwood Ct. in Gold Key Lake. The observant neighbor notified Gold Key Security, who in turn, requested dispatch of Station 26 at 17:53 hours. The neighbor kept the fire in check until the arrival of 26 Brush and crew. The crew completely extinguished the small brush fire along with the pile of smoldering debris that was left by the contractor working on the new house. The contractor was issued a warning for violating several articles in the Dingman Township Burning Ordinance as well as a citation from Gold Key’s Security Department for violating their own burning regulations. The crew was in service for 30 minutes.
2nd Early Morning Assist to Hemlock Farms
05-25-2007- Shortly after 0530 hours this morning Hemlock Farms Fire Chief Rob Palumbo requested several area tankers to assist with a tractor trailer fire on the Lord’s Valley westbound exit ramp for Route 84. 26 Tanker and Chief Mikulak made the response to the scene. The tanker stood by for a short time in case additional water was necessary. The crew returned to service at 0618 hours. On Tuesday, May 22nd, Chief Palumbo dispatched for 26 Rescue to smoke in the residence on Overlook Dr. in Hemlock Farms just after 0500 hours. As the Rescue proceeded toward the scene, Chief Palumbo marked the incident under control and recalled the 26 unit’s. Crews were back in station by 0530 hours.
One Flown From ATV Accident
05-20-2007- Just after 1400 hours today crews were alerted to an ATV accident off of Yale Road in Gold Key Lake. Personnel arrived within a minute of the dispatch and found a juvenile had been thrown off of an ATV onto the pavement suffering what appeared to be moderate injuries. EMS personnel requested MedEvac to fly and land at the Gold Key Ball Field to transport the patient to an area trauma center that specializes in pediatric injuries. 26 Engine and 26 Rescue set up the landing zone while the crew from Ambulance 268 treated and transported the patient to the landing zone. Pike County ALS Medic 401 was also assisted on the scene. Crews were in service for just over an hour.
Equipment Fire in Conashaugh Lakes
05-16-2007- Shortly after 10 this morning Fire Station and Squad 26 was dispatched to construction equipment on fire on Indian Run Rd. in Conashaugh Lakes. 26 Brush and 26 Engine made the response with 8 personnel and arrived on scene to find a smoldering wood chipper trailer on fire. The contractor using the equipment used an excavator to dump dirt on the trailer effectively smothering most of the fire. Crews used a booster line off the Brush Truck to complete some overhaul and cleaned up the road from the dirt. Crews were back in service within an hour.
Two Mutual Aid Calls for the Day
05-15-2007- The volunteers from Dingman Township were alerted at 1445 hours today to assist Blooming Grove Fire Co. with a brush fire threatening a structure on Spring Road in Blooming Grove Township. 26 Brush and 26 Engine responded to the call. While enroute to the brush fire the Dive Team was requested to the scene of a possible water rescue in Twin Lakes, Shohola Township. The command officer at the brush fire advised that Dingman Township units could respond to water rescue and disregard the brush fire. Dingman Township split the crew returning the 26 Brush for the Boat while 26 Engine continued into the scene of the brush fire for manpower. Once on scene of the Spring Road incident the Engine crew was directed to Station 25 for stand-by duties. The crews from 26 Brush and Boat along with two divers were cancelled enroute to the water rescue when Chief Wall from Shohola FD discovered all parties involved were safely on land. The stand-by crew at Station 25 received no further calls and was released at 1700 hours.
Early Morning MVA
05-13-2007- Just before 4 this morning 26 Engine and Ambulance 269 responded to Rt. 739 just north of Lake Adventure for a reported rollover motor vehicle accident. Crews arrived to find a sedan had spun around and struck a tree causing moderate damage to the vehicle. The driver of the car denied any injury after being assessed by the EMS crew aboard Ambulance 269. The crew from 26 Engine checked for hazards and controlled traffic. Units were in service for 45 minutes.

05-06-2007- While Ambulance 269 was answering an EMS call in Gold Key Lake, the remainder of the station was dispatched at 18:32 hours for a vehicle fire on Bald Ridge Rd. in Sunrise Lake. 26 Engine, 26 Tanker, and Ambulance 268 answered the call finding our junior firefighter Tim Guerra’s vehicle with a working engine compartment fire. Crews made quick work of the fire with no injuries reported. The fire was deemed accidental in nature and all units were placed in service at 19:22 hours.
Debris Fire at a Familiar Address
05-03-2007- Just before doors were to open for the weekly bingo game, 26 Engine and Brush were dispatched to a debris fire on East Lake Dr. in Gold Key Lake. Crews had no problem locating the address as the property was the scene of two suspicious fires in 2006. Units arrived on scene to find a small debris fire that was left burning by the contractors working on the house. Personnel extinguished the fire and were back in service within 30 minutes.
