Early Morning Rollover

 

 03/26/2006-  Volunteers were roused from their beds at 0600 hours this morning for a reported rollover accident on Rt. 739 south of Lake Adventure.  Crews manning 26 Rescue and Ambulance 269 arrived on scene to find a Jeep had struck several small trees and rol

led over onto its passenger side.  The driver of the vehicle was able to self extricate herself from the vehicle.  The crew from the Rescue performed a hazards check and controlled traffic.  The EMS crew assessed the driver for injury.  An additional crew for 26 Engine remained on stand-by at the firehouse.  Crews operated on the scene for 50 minutes.

 

Gold Key Basement Fire

 03/25/2006-  Thirteen volunteers responded to an evening call reporting a basement filled with smoke on White Pine Dr. in Gold Key Lake.  Units arrived to find that an electrical fire in a fluorescent light had spread to some floor and piping insulation.  Power was secured to the light and the fire quickly self extinguished itself.  Crews removed the lighting fixture, checked for extension, performed overhaul, and ventilated.  No injuries were reported.  The department operated for 30 minutes on the scene.

 

Dump Truck Knocks Out Phone Service

 

03/24/2006-  Station 26 was alerted to a reported wire down and arcing on Slaymaker Rd. in Gold Key Lake.  Crews arrived on scene to find a large telephone cable had been severed by a dump truck while it was sanding the roadways from the snow squall passing through.  Further investigation found 5 more areas with broken phone and cable lines along a mile of Slaymaker Rd. and East Lake Dr.  Fire personnel were able to secure the involved wires to the sides of the roadways allowing them to remain open until the utility companies were able to make the necessary repairs.  Crew operated for 30 minutes.

 

Cooking Leads to a Busy Afternoon

 

03/22/2006-  DTVFD was alerted at 1438 hours to an alarm sounding at the Dingman Delaware Primary School on Route 739.  Chief Officer arrived on scene to find that a custodian had over cooked his popcorn in the microwave triggering the alarm.  26 Engine and the 6 volunteers were quickly returned.  At 1547 hours the volunteers were once again alerted for a reported grease fire with an injured person on Butternut Rd. in Gold Key Lake.  Twelve volunteers responded 26 Engine, Tanker, Rescue, and Ambulance 269 to the scene.  Personnel arrived on scene to find light smoke coming from the residence and a bystander reporting that the bulk of the fire was knocked down using a fire extinguisher.  Fire crews checked for extension, performed salvage and overhaul, and ventilated.  The EMS crew handled a male resident that suffered serious burns to his hands while attempting to extinguish the fire.  The kitchen area suffered moderate fire damage near the stove while the remainder of the residence suffered smoke damage.  Fire crews operated on the scene for 45 minutes.

 

Weekend Structure Fires Result in Minor Damage

  

03/18&19/2006-  Personnel responded to a reported basement filling with smoke on White Pine Ct. in Bluestone Ridge at 2221 hours Saturday night.  Eighteen volunteers responded with 26 Engine, Tanker, Rescue, and Ambulances 268 & 269.  Prior to arrival the homeowner discovered the cause of the smoke to be a malfunctioning oil furnace which he was able to shut down.  The homeowner then began ventilating the basement.  Crews arrived to find only a slight smoke condition left within the structure and a moderate amount of soot in the basement area near the furnace.  A crew checked the residence for elevated Carbon Monoxide levels and continued ventilation.  Crews operated for just over an ½ hour on the scene.  Volunteers were just beginning to do the weekly Sunday morning maintenance work at the firehouse when the department was alerted at 1043 hours for another structure fire.  This time the fire was on High Meadow Ct. in Sunrise Lake.  Nineteen volunteers again emptied the firehouse of equipment and arrived to find a control burn outside the house had spread to the exterior of the house.  Crews pulled a 1 ¾” handline and quickly extinguished the fire with minimum damage to the house.  Residents are reminded use caution while performing control burns and follow the Dingman Township Burning Ordinance.

 

DTVFD responds to Structure Fire & MVA

 

03/17/2006-  As St. Patrick’s Day parties were just beginning, the DTVFD was alerted at 2133 hours for a possible pedestrian struck on Southwynd Dr. in Gold Key Lake.  Chief Officers arrived on the scene to find not a pedestrian stuck but a two vehicle accident with no injuries.  26 Rescue and Ambulance 269 were cancelled by the OIC and the scene was turned over to the Gold Key Security Department. 

03/16/2006-  Crews were dispatched to a mid afternoon structure fire on Lakewood Ct. in Pocono Water Forest.  26 Engine and Ambulance 269 responded with 7 volunteers and arrived to find a fire that was confined to the cooking stove and was extinguished prior to apparatus arrival.  Personnel confirmed that there was no extension of fire outside of the stove and quickly returned to service. 

 

Evening Chimney Fire

 March 11, 2006-  Fifteen volunteers manning 26 Engine, Tanker, Rescue, and Ambulance 268 answered a 1623 hours call reporting a chimney fire on Cottonwood Ct. in Gold Key Lake.  Units arrived on the scene to find a small smoldering fire near the bottom of the chimney.  Units made quick work of the fire with command clearing all units from the scene within thirty minutes.

 

Gold Key Rd. MVA

 

March 06 2006-  Personnel were summoned at 0752 hours to Gold Key Rd. near Yale Rd. for a motor vehicle accident.  Eight volunteers manning 26 Rescue and Ambulance 269 arrived to find a pick up truck had left the roadway and struck several rocks and trees.  EMS crews assessed the two occupants and found one to be unconscious suffering a medical emergency not related to the accident.  Command requested for unit from Pike County ALS to meet with Ambulance 269 in route to the hospital.  Fire personnel assisted with patient packaging, checking for hazards, and traffic control.  Units operated at the scene for an hour and twenty minutes.

 

March Starts With a Close Call

 

March 1, 2006-  An alert 6 year old spotted smoke coming from a shed at his grandmother’s house on Slaymaker Rd. in Gold Key Lake shortly after noon today.  After being alerted the grandmother investigated finding a brush and debris fire threatening the shed and notified 9-1-1.  Ten Dingman Township Volunteers manning 26 Brush, 26 Engine, and Ambulance 268 responded and extinguished the fire with only minor damage to the shed.  The cause of the fire was traced back to discarded ash from the coal stove.  Units operated 35 minutes on the scene.

 

Mutual Aid Calls Make For a Busy Afternoon

 March 1, 2006-  Ambulance 268 was alerted at 1412 hours to assist Delaware Ambulance with a motor vehicle accident with two injuries on Silver Lake Rd. near Child’s Park.  Arriving on scene, personnel were greeted by a two vehicle head crash between a mini-van and a pick up truck.  Dingman Township personnel treated and transported one patient to Newton Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.  At 1438 hours Dingman Township’s Dive Team was requested to assist with a person reported through the ice on Clove Lake just over the Pike County line in Wayne County.  26 Rescue and 26 Boat being pulled by 26 Brush manned by 9 volunteers responded.  While responding the Dive Teams from Pike County were cancelled due to the person being pulled from the water by first arriving Wayne County units.
