February Totals

February proved to be a busy month for the volunteers at Station 26.  The Fire Station was dispatched to 36 calls.  We provided either mutual aid or stand by duty for Delaware Township, Hemlock Farms, Milford, and Tafton Fire Departments.  Milford Fire Department provided mutual aid to us.  Motor vehicle accidents topped the list of responses with 13.  The ambulances were also busy seeing a total of 60 patients throughout the month.

 

Traffic Control on Route 739

02-21-2008-  Our fire-police were requested for traffic control on Route 739 just south of Five Mile Meadow Rd. for a Pa. Dept. of Transportation truck with a mechanical issue.  Two fire police personnel performed traffic control while officials of PennDOT, removed a wing plow that failed and wedged into the ground alongside the roadway.  Crews worked forty minutes before traffic was once again moving freely. 

 

Lunch Time Accident Sends One to Hospital

02-21-2008- Shorlty after returning from the chimney fire, 26 Rescue and Ambulance 268 were alerted to an accident with injury near the end of Locust Dr. in Pocono Woodlands.  Crews arrived on the scene and found a pick up truck had run off the roadway and was stuck on several large stumps and rocks.  The driver self extricated himself from the vehicle but appeared to be incoherent.  While EMS personnel tended to the driver firefighters checked on hazards and controlled the traffic and crowd.  Pa. State Police at Blooming Grove investigated the incident.  Ambulance 268 transported the driver to a local hospital for follow up care.  Fire units were in service for just over an hour. 

 Assist to Delaware FD on a Chimney Fire

02-21-2008- Just before 1000 hours this morning 26 Engine was requested to assist Delaware Fire Co. with a chimney fire on Fox Rd. in Pocono Mtn. Lake Forest.  28 Rescue responded with a light manpower complement and arrived on scene with a working chimney fire.  26 Engine and it’s crew arrived and placed to work laddering and extinguishing the fire.  Crews worked just over forty minutes on the scene and kept the fire confined to the flue.  No injuries were on scene. 

 

 

Flooding Condition Found at Fire Alarm

 

02-20-2008- Crews were alerted at 17:13 hours for a reported fire alarm sounding at a residence on Spruce Lake Dr. in Sunrise Lake.  26 Ladder arrived on scene and entered the residence to find flooding condition on all floors of the house. Personnel secured power and water to the residence stopping the cause of the leak.  Command notified Met Ed Utilities for the power disconnect and the Township’s Building Inspector.  Units were in service for 50 minutes.

 

Saturday Morning Chimney Fire

 

02-16-2008- The volunteers at Dingman Township were alerted at 08:22 this morning to Sunrise Dr. for the report of a chimney fire.  Crews manning 26 Ladder, 26 Engine, 26 Tanker, and Ambulance 268 arrived on scene and found the fire had contained itself to flue.  Crews extinguished the fire in the firebox and checked the chimney.  Crews cleared the scene in just under 50 minutes. 

Late Night MVA on Route 739

 

 02-16-2008- Personnel were aroused from their beds at 01:21 hours this morning for a motor vehicle accident on Rt. 739 in the area of the 5 Mile Meadow Rd.  26 Engine and Ambulance 268 arrived to find a large van had rolled over at least once with the sole occupant self extricated from the vehicle.  Fire personnel controlled hazards and traffic while the EMS crew handled a patient assessment.  Units worked the scene for an hour and twenty minutes while the Pa. State Police conducted their investigation.

 Winter Mix Brings 9 Calls to the Station

02-12&13-2008- The wintry mix of sleet and freezing rain that blanketed the area brought a total of nine calls to the station.  The 1st call of the storm was a reported vehicle fire on Gold Key Rd. at Yale Pl.  Units arrived to find one of the community’s plow truck with an electrical fire under the dashboard.  The situation was quickly brought under control without incident.  The 2nd call of the storm was a primary power line down across Log Tavern Rd. just east of the firehouse.  Personnel manning 26 Brush and 26 Rescue directed traffic for over five hours while Met Ed Utilities secured the scene.  The 3rd call of the day was to stand by for the Hemlock Farms Fire & Rescue Co. while they responded to a fatal motor vehicle accident on Interstate 84.  The 4th and 5th calls happened within minutes and miles of one another on Route 739.  Personnel operating 26 Rescue, 26 Engine, and Ambulance 268 handled the two motor vehicles accidents quickly.  After some hazard and traffic control as well as some patient assessments the crews were on their way to the 6th call of the storm.  This time the units were on the way to a CO alarm on Aspen Dr. in Pocono Woodlands.  Crews performed monitoring services throughout the house before turning the residence back over to the property owner.  The 7th and 8th calls for the storm were directly across the street from one another on Spruce Dr. in Gold Key Lake.  Crews arrived to find flooding conditions in both basements to the sump pumps failing to operate due to a localized power outage.  Crews set up generators and electric pumps for the occupants of both residences.  The 9th call of the storm was a medical emergency in Gold Key Lake handled by Ambulance 268.

 Four Accidents and a Fall Attributed to Snow Squalls

 

02-09-2008-  A mid morning series of snow squalls wreaked havoc in Dingman Township today.  Dingman Township’s Rescue and Ambulances were kept busy handling several accidents and a fall victim due to the weather.  The 1st call was received for a motor vehicle accident on Log Tavern Rd. near Dwarfskill Ct.  Crews were advised enroute that there were no reported injuries but the vehicle struck a bridge abutment and was in a dangerous location to evacuate the occupants.  Units arrived on the scene and assisted with traffic control and an EMS crew assessed the occupants involved.  The 2nd crew sent units to Rt. 739 just south of Log Tavern Rd. for a reported pick up truck head on into a large rock.  Crews arrived on the scene of this accident to find the occupant denying any injury.  Personnel directed traffic at this scene also while another EMS crew assessed this driver.  Just after arriving on Route 739 scene Assistant Chief LaPadula (26-3) discovered a one vehicle accident on Log Tavern Rd. near Bluestone Ridge.  This call brought the assistance of the Milford Fire Department’s Rescue Truck and Ambulance 336 as well Ambulance 268 from Station 26.  The crew from Milford’s Rescue performed hazard control on the vehicle while Ambulance 268’s crew tended to the injured driver.  A short time later Ambulance 269 was sent the Pocono Woodlands for a fall victim outside.  While that EMS crew was transporting that patient to a local hospital, Ambulance 268 and 26 Rescue were alerted again to Log Tavern Rd. at Bluestone Ridge for another accident.  Personnel again controlled hazards and assessed the driver.   Dingman Township personnel were in operation for all scenes for just over 3.5 hours.

 Conashaugh MVA Injures One

 

02-07-2008-  26 Rescue and Ambulance 268 were dispatched at 05:44 hours this morning to a reported accident on Route 739 near Conashaugh Lakes 2nd Entrance.  Crews originally had difficulty finding the accident until the 9-1-1 center called the driver back to find that he was actually on Oneida Way within Conashaugh Lakes.  Units arrived to find a small sedan had struck a tree after sliding on black ice.  The vehicle suffered heavy front end damage in the accident.  The driver was able to self extricate himself from the vehicle and was complaining of minor injuries.  Fire personnel removed power from the vehicle while the EMS crew transported the driver to a local hospital for treatment.  Units were in service for 35 minutes.

 Super Bowl Interrupted By Search

 

02-03-2008-  About half through the 2nd quarter of the Super Bowl personnel from Station 26’s Ice Rescue Team was dispatched to Wild Acres Lake to assist Delaware Township Fire Co. with a search for a mentally handicapped male that wandered out onto the lake and disappeared from site of the security person.  26 Rescue and 26 Brush responded and reported to command.  Dingman Township personnel were given several areas to search with all searches coming up negative.  As crews were taking a breather and awaiting a NYSP helicopter to search the lake by air, several personnel near the command post spotted the individual out on the ice halfway between the shorelines.  The Dingman Township crew, still dressed in their ice rescue suits, quickly headed out on the ice and were able to talk the lost person into walking into the shoreline.  Once on shore the subject was transferred to Delaware Township Ambulance for an assessment.  Units operated for just over 2.5 hours on the ice.  Dingman Township also handled a fire alarm on Aspen Dr. in Pocono Woodlands during the search.  Crews manning 26 Ladder and 26 Tanker found a faulty detector as the cause of the alarm and quickly returned to service.

 Accident Leaves One Hanging

 

02-02-2008-  Fire Station and Squad 26 were alerted at 20:39 hours for a reported motor vehicle accident at a residence on Cheyene Trail in Indian Trails.  Personnel arrived on scene to find a sedan had slipped on the icy driveway and went partially down the inclined driveway striking a tree.  The accident caused the vehicle’s rear to lift off the ground causing the occupant to become trapped in the hanging vehicle. Fire personnel cleared the driveway of ice and then assisted the passenger out of the vehicle without incident.  No injuries were reported.  Units operated for 25 minutes.

 Morning Crash on Route 739

 

02-01-2008-  Dingman Township’s Rescue Truck along with Ambulance 268 were alerted at 07:08 hours for a motor vehicle accident on Rt. 739 near the Whispering Pines Nursery.  Units arrived on scene to find a small sedan had run off the roadway striking several trees.  The occupant of the vehicle was shaken up but reported no injury.  Fire personnel performed a hazard check and controlled traffic while the EMS crew assessed the driver.  Units operated for nearly 90 minutes while the Pa. State Police performed their investigation and the wrecker company removed the vehicle.
