Fire Crews Run Four
Incidents

04-07-2010- 26 Rescue was alert at 10:15 hours to
stand-by at a vehicle accident on Interstate 84 westbound in Blooming Grove
Township. The incident was
scaled back by 25-2 and 26 Rescue was cancelled.
At 10:40 hours 26 Rescue and 26 Ambulance 1 along with 29 Engine and
29 Traffic Unit responded to a motor vehicle accident on Route 739 near Five
Mile Meadow Rd. Units operated
at a single vehicle accident with occupants suffering minor injuries.
26 Rescue’s crew handled hazards while the ambulance crew tended and
transported the injured parties.
Units cleared within an hour.
At 12:04 hours 26 Ladder was assigned to a reported dwelling fire on
Spruce St. in Birchwood Lakes, Delaware Township (28’s First Due).
As Station 28’s chief arrived on scene he found a barn style shed
well involved with the fire spreading to a single family home and the
surrounding brush. 26 Ladder
arrived on scene and were tasked with extinguishment of the structures and
the brush in the surrounding area.
Due to the rapid growth of the brush fire, 26 Brush was also
requested to assist with the firefight.
The crew from 26 Brush was released at 16:48 hours.
At 14:03 hours a dwelling fire assignment was dispatched for heavy
smoke coming from the house on North Forrest Dr. in Gold Key Lake (Box
26-04). Due to most of the 1st
alarm companies being on the dwelling/brush fire in Delaware Township, units
normally on the 2nd and 3rd alarm were sent as first
due. 26 Ladder was released
from brush fire and responded to the Gold Key fire along with 26 Engine, 26
Tanker, 26 Rescue, 26 Ambulance 1, 29 Ladder, 32 Rescue, 39 Engine 1, 39
Tanker, Montague FD Tanker 1, Montague FD Engine 1, and Port Jervis FD
Ladder 7’s crew as RIT. Crews
from 26, 29, and 39 made the attack using 2- 1.75 inch lines knocking down a
heavily involved basement fire with extension into the first floor living
room. As additional person
arrived crews were tasked with ventilation, salvage, and overhaul.
No injuries were reported on scene.
The fire was ruled accidental by the Pa. State Police Fire Marshall.
Dingman Township crews were on scene for three hours.
Special thanks to our southern department stuck north of the “I” for
providing a stand-by engine while our units operated at the fires.
Busy Overnight

04-05-2010- The EMS crews from Station 26 were kept busy
in the early morning hours with several incidents.
The first medical emergency came in just before 00:30 hours to Locust
Lake Dr. in Lake Adventure. The
second run came in at 01:21 hours for a vehicle accident on Rt. 739 just
north of Lake Adventure. 26
Engine, 26 Rescue, 26 Support, and 26 Ambulance 2 made that response and
found a single vehicle accident with one occupant injured.
The third call of the morning sent the ambulance crew to Hawk View
Dr. in Sunrise Lake.
MVA Injures One

04-03-2010- Crews just managed to get back into bed after
answering a possible vehicle fire call in the parking lot of the station
when they were alerted to a motor vehicle accident on Route 739 near the
main entrance of Conashauagh Lakes.
26 Rescue, 26 Engine, and 26 Ambulance 1 responded and were advised
by the Communications Center of a single vehicle that had struck a utility
pole. Units arrived on scene to
find a vehicle severely damaged and a sheared utility pole leaning slightly
toward Route 739. The driver
was found walking about the scene.
After walking into the ambulance it was found during the patient
assessment that the operator had possibly serious injuries and ALS was
requested from both Pike County Medic 401 and MedEvac.
Fire crews secured the hazards on the scene and directed traffic
while EMS and Pa. State Police performed their duties.
26 Engine then proceeded back to the firehouse and set up the landing
zone for MedEvac 2. The injured
driver was transported to a local trauma center.
Units were in service for 90 minutes.
Volunteers Handle 8 Runs
on Saturday

03-27-2010- The volunteers of Dingman Township kept busy
today running eight emergency calls throughout Pike County.
Shortly, before 08:30 hours 26 Ladder and 26 Tanker were alerted on a
33 Box for a commercial building fire on Rt. 6.
Units were recalled as they went responding when the owner of the
building called in reporting it was the outdoor furnace that was the cause
of the smoke. At 16:15 hours 26
Ladder and 26 Engine were assigned to fire alarm activation on Maple Ridge
Dr. in Hemlock Farms. 29 Ladder
arrived on scene and cancelled the 26 units after finding a faulty alarm at
the scene. 26 Brush, 26 Engine,
and 26 Tanker were assigned to a brush fire at 18:34 hours on St. Vincent’s
Drive. Crews arrived to find
several pieces of discarded furniture and brush burning just off the
roadway. Crews extinguished and
overhauled the area before returning to station 20 minutes later.
EMS crews handled an additional five emergencies throughout the day.
Ladder Runs 39 Dwelling
Box

03-23-2010- Just before 18:30 hours 26 Ladder was
assigned to a chimney fire on Foster Hill Rd. in Westfall Township.
Units arrived to find a single story residence with a fire in the
flue pipe. Crews from performed
various duties both inside and outside the residence while extinguishing the
fire. Personnel kept the fire
confined to the flue pipe. No
injuries were reported on the scene.
26 Ladder’s crew operated for 30 minutes on the box.
Engine & Rescue Assist at
Hemlock Farms Dwelling

03-20-2010- Shortly before 22:30 hours 26 Engine and 26
Rescue were sent to Boulder Dr. in Hemlock Farms, Blooming Grove Township to
assist Station 29 with a dwelling fire. Station 29’s personnel arrived on
scene to find a working fire on the 2nd floor of the residence
with all occupants reported to be out of the house. The crew from Hemlock Farms
placed two lines in service and placed a quick knock on the fire. 26 Engine
and Rescue arrived and the 12 volunteers were placed to work assisting in
opening up the involved areas. With the fire extinguished, the crews then
assisted the Hemlock Farms volunteers with restoring their equipment and
picking up the nearly 800 feet of LDH laid into the scene. Crews operated
for just over two hours.
Crews Assist with Search
03-20-2010- Personnel from Dingman Township and Milford Fire
Departments assembled at Station 26 just before 10:00 hours to assist the
National Park Service Rangers with a search for a missing NY state man
within the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. The 15 volunteers
from the 2 departments arrived at the command post and after a briefing were
split into two teams. The first crew was assigned a grid search of the
Adam’s Creek area of the park in Delaware Township and the second crew went
over to Sandyston Township NJ to assist a dog handler and his dog searching
several large fields. As crews completed these tasks word came out that the
subject was found deceased in another area of the park. Crews were released
shortly thereafter. The NPS at DWGNRA is currently investigating the
incident.
Minor Dwelling Fire in 1st
Due

03-12-2010- 26 Ladder, 26 Tanker, and 26 Ambulance 1 were
dispatched at 16:16 hours to Wild Meadow Dr. in Sunrise Lake for a reported
structure fire. As units went responding they were updated that another
call received from the residence reporting that they believed they had the
fire extinguished. Units arrived on scene to find that the homeowner
ignited some insulation while performing some plumbing work. The homeowner
was able to extinguish the fire with a garden hose. Personnel performed
some overhaul and checked for extension before returning to service at 16:48
hours.
26 Ladder on 33 Dwelling
Box

03-07-2010- Shortly after 20:00 hours 26 Ladder was
requested to assist Station 33 on a reported structure fire on Christian
Hill Rd. in Dingman Township. Fire
Station 33 personnel arrived on scene to find a working fire on side
C of the structure around the chimney with extension into the living room
area of the residence. The
Dingman Township volunteers arrived threw three ladders and began opening up
side c of the building while the Milford volunteers went to work
extinguishing the fire. Command
held 33 units and 26 Ladder to finish salvage and overhaul.
No injuries were reported on the scene.
Engine and Tanker on Delaware
Twp. Dwelling Fire

02-27-2009- 26 Engine was alerted
at 16:22 hours as automatic mutual aid to the Delaware Fire Co. for a dwelling
fire on Sproul Rd. in Delaware Township.
While en route the Pike County Communications Center advised the callers
were reporting a well involved dwelling with no entrapment.
With that information 28-1 added 26 Tanker onto the assignment.
26 Engine arrived on scene and took first due engine responsibilities
while 28 Engine 2 provided a steady water supply with the assistance of 33
Tanker to the scene and 33 Engine to the fill site
The Dingman Township volunteers entered the structure and encountered
fire in the bedroom and attic areas of the single story ranch.
Crews knocked down all visible fire quickly and without incident.
Station 26 and 28 personnel spent the next hour performing overhaul and
salvage. The crews were able to
recover 3 pet turtles for the family, but unfortunately several pets did succumb
to smoke inhalation during the fire.
No injuries were reported on the scene.
Dingman Township units were made available at 18:19 hours.
Accident Injures One

02-25-2009- Just at the “Snowicane of 2010” was beginning, 26
Support and 26 Ambulance 1 were on scene of a motor vehicle accident on Log
Tavern Rd. at Water Forest Dr.
Crews were met on scene by a head on collision with one of the drivers suffering
minor injuries. Fire personnel
checked for hazards and controlled traffic while the EMS crew treated the
injured party. Pa. State Police at
Blooming Grove handled the investigation.
Units cleared the scene within 90 minutes.
Crews handled another accident on Sunrise Dr. toward the end of the storm
and several EMS calls during the snow.
Rt. 739 Mid-Morning Accident

02-24-2009- The volunteers from Dingman Township along with
Pike County ALS Medic 401 were alerted at 10:19 hours for a motor vehicle
accident on Rt. 739 near the 5 Mile Meadow Rd.
Units arrived on scene to find a SUV off the roadway into some trees.
Fire crews controlled traffic and assisted the EMS personnel in removing
the injured driver. Units were in
service for 30 minutes.
Ladder on Chimney Fire in 33 Box

02-19-2009- 26 Ladder along 33 units were dispatched at 17:56
hours to Yellow Wood Dr. in Pocono Woodlands for the reported chimney fire.
Crews from Stations 26 and 33 arrived on scene and performed a
coordinated attack and controlled the situation quickly with no damage to the
structure. Units were made
available at 18:34 hours.
Accident Downs Utility Pole

02-16-2009- 26 Engine, 26 Support, and 26 Ambulance 1 were
dispatched at 20:55 hours for a motor vehicle accident with a utility pole down
in the roadway. Crews arrived to
find a full sized pickup truck on it’s side with the injured driver self
extricated and the utility pole sheared in several different pieces.
Fire units controlled hazards and traffic while the EMS crew tended to
the injured driver. Units were in
service for several hours controlling traffic until the arrival of a First
Energy employee. Units returned to
service at 23:00 hours.
Accident In Front Of Station
Injures One

02-10-2010- Shortly before 07:30 this morning as the day’s winter storm began to
intensify, the volunteers were alerted to a truck into a utility pole directly
in front of the station. Personnel
arrived to find a pickup truck sideways into a large utility pole with the
driver self extricated suffering minor injuries.
Crews confirmed no hazards and set up traffic control.
26 Ambulance 1 transported the driver to a local hospital for continued
treatment. The EMS crew answered
one additional medical emergency in Gold Key Lake during the storm.
Engine & Tanker Assist At
Dwelling Fire

02-08-2010- 26 Engine was alerted at 11:43 hours for an
engine assist to the Delaware Fire Co. for a chimney fire on Claudine Lane. in
Marcel Lakes. While en route
neighbors began calling 9-1-1 reporting the fire had extended into the
structure. With the update of the
fire advancing 26 Tanker was added to the box.
26 Engine arrived and placed two 1.75” hoselines into service.
Dingman Township crews entered the structure from the rear deck of the
residence and placed a knock on the visible fire.
The crew worked with Station 28’s crew to performing extinguishment,
overhaul, and salvage before being released by command 2 hours later.
Small Fire In First Due

02-07-2010- Just about half way through the Department’s
monthly breakfast 26 Ladder, 26 Tanker, and 26 Ambulance 1 were dispatched to
Cabin Rd. in Sunrise Lake for a fire in an attached garage.
Units arrived to find the homeowner removing burning trash from the
garage. Crews confirmed no
extension into the structure itself and assisted with removing and extinguishing
the remaining debris. No injuries
were reported. 26 Engine went on
the road again at 12:48 hours to assist the Delaware Fire Co. with a fire alarm
activation on Roberts Ln. in Pocono Mtn. Lake Estates.
The engine was cancelled en route after the homeowner reported a false
activation.
Early Morning Assist To Hemlock
Farms

02-05-2010- 26 Engine and 26 Rescue were alerted at 01:16
hours to assist the Hemlock Farms Fire & Rescue Co. on a well involved dwelling
on Dogwood Ct. in Hemlock Farms.
Dingman Township crews arrived and went right to work pulling a 2.5” handline
and placing a knock on the well advanced fire.
The volunteers from Hemlock Farms and Dingman Township worked together to
finish off extinguishment and overhaul of the destroyed structure.
The Blooming Grove Fire Co. assisted on scene with water supply.
Station 26 units were released from the scene after nearly 4 hours.
January 2010
Crews Keep Busy With Accidents

01-28-2010-
26 Engine and 26 Ambulance 1 responded at 16:07 hours to a reported vehicle
overturned on Rt. 739 north of Log Tavern Road.
Units arrived to find a single vehicle not overturned but into a tree and
drainage ditch with the occupant self extricated suffering minor injuries.
The fire crew controlled traffic and tended to hazards while the
EMS personnel treated and transported the driver to a local hospital
for minor injuries.
Pa.
State Police at Blooming Grove investigated the accident. This was the third of
four accidents handled by the
Dingman
Township volunteers that
occurred throughout day.
Flooded Basement Leads To An Animal Rescue

01-25-2010- Shortly before 16:00 hours this afternoon the
station was requested to assist with a flooding condition in a residence on
Spruce Dr. in Gold Key Lake. While
units were en route, the Communications Center updated them that there was a dog
trapped in the water. The resident
arrived home after a day out to find that the heavy rains and a malfunctioning
sump pump caused the basement level of the home to fill with 2.5 to 3 feet of
water. The family’s Golden
Retriever was in the basement when the flooding occurred and was in the water
for several hours causing him to be hypothermic and unable to move.
26 Support arrived on scene and personnel deployed a one volunteer in an
surface ice rescue suit into the basement to remove the family pet while the
remainder of the crew set up for water evacuation.
The canine was removed without incident and warmed up by the homeowner.
The crew placed an electric sump pump in service for the homeowner and
removed the water from the residence.
The crew where in service for just under an hour.
Icy Conditions Lead To A Busy Day

01-24-2010- Dingman Township
volunteers continued to keep busy today beginning with an overnight EMS call in the township.
At 10:49 hours 26 Brush responded to Raymondskill Rd. in the area of Sequoia Ln. for a
utility pole fire. Personnel
arrived in the area and found that a squirrel got himself into the electrical
equipment on the pole causing the fire.
First Energy was notified to repair the equipment.
Unfortunately the squirrel did not survive his encounter.
As the crew cleared the Raymondskill incident a light mist began to fall
from the sky. The mist coupled with
the 31 degree air temperature caused the roads in the area to freeze on contact.
Within minutes the 9-1-1 center was flooded with phone calls reporting
accident throughout the county. 26
Engine, and both ambulances were assigned to various incidents throughout the
county and even into Montague, New Jersey.
The ambulances handled a total 8 patients from the various auto
accidents. The fire personnel
handled several accidents throughout the township and accidentally tripped fire
alarm on Oneida Way
in Conashaugh Lakes.
Engine Goes South For Two Dwelling Fires

01-23-2010-
26 Engine along with the Delaware Fire Company were dispatched at 16:44 hours to
the 100 block of Bayberry Dr. in Pocono Water Forest, Delaware Township for a
reported dwelling fire. 26 Engine
arrived on scene and assumed first due engine responsibilities.
The crew encountered a heavy smoke condition coming from the basement of
the vacant residence. Personnel
found a faulty furnace as the cause and isolated the problem and began
ventilation before being released by 28 Command.
At 20:35 hours 26 Engine again took first due responsibilities when
dispatched with Delaware Fire Company to a dwelling fire on Saw Mill Rd. in Delaware Township.
Once on scene the crew split and with 3 going interior and two going to
the roof. The crew found a working
fire in the roof area of a converted hunting cabin.
Crews from Delaware, Dingman, and Bushkill worked for
several hours opening up the roof and ceiling before complete extinguishment was
accomplished. Dingman Township
personnel operated for just under 4 hours at the Saw Mill Rd. incident.
Engine Assist To Delaware

01-15-2010- 26 Engine was alerted at 16:20 hours to assist
the Delaware
Fire Company with a chimney fire on
Fox Rd. in Pocono Mtn. Lake Forest, Delaware
Township. The crew was assigned to
assist with extinguishment of the flue fire.
The crew laddered the dwelling and used the chimney chains to knock down
the burning creosote. The fire was
contained to the chimney and the
Dingman
Township volunteers were
released at 17:30 hours.
Chimney Fire With Extension

01-12-2010-
Dingman Township’s Engine responded along with the Delaware Fire Company at
19:17 hours to Wild Acres Dr. in Wild Acres, Delaware Township for a reported
chimney fire.
Delaware
personnel arrived to find a chimney fire that extended into the framework of the
chimney chase. 26 Engine’s crew
arrived and was assigned to open of the exterior of the chimney chase.
Once the area was opened up the fire was extinguished without incident by
Delaware Township personnel.
The Dingman Township volunteers were released at 20:26 hours.
